The community has lost one of its quiet builders, and I want to make sure her name is remembered. Deborah "Deb" Loftsgard founded Firm Foundations and was a founding member of the Stutsman-Barnes County Drug Court. Deb was the heartbeat of our drug court and of the entire sobriety community. She helped lay the foundation of the court with her own two hands and built it into the most successful drug court in the state. She did it without fanfare, through faith in people who had often stopped believing in themselves. We are living through a mental health and chemical dependency crisis. Too often we answer it with judgment or we look away. Deb never did. She met it quietly, one person at a time, with respect and dignity. To her, no one was a lost cause. She experienced measured success with a men s sober living home. When our area needed a sober living home for women, she quit her full-time job and took a chance on women.
